Go Red for Women

At the 2018 Northwest Harris County Go Red For Women Luncheon, we will proudly honor Darcy Mingoia, a longtime volunteer who has selflessly volunteered many years of service to the American Heart Association.

About Darcy

Darcy has passionately volunteered and advocated for heart health since 1990 when she co-chaired the first-ever Heart Walk in Cy-Fair.  A business peer invited her to participate and she quickly saw the life-saving impact that AHA cardiovascular disease research had and became determined to help raise funds to support it.  She also experienced the risks associated with heart disease and lost her Dad, “way too early”, to a heart attack in 1993.  During the 27 years she has volunteered, she has served in a wide variety of diverse roles.  She has chaired every local AHA event, served in all leadership positions on local boards, and advocated for necessary legislation in Austin.  She has championed the Go Red for Women event since its inception as a committee member and Circle of Red member each year.  She has chaired Circle of Red numerous times and was chair of the 2016 Go Red For Women Luncheon.

In addition to her work with AHA, Darcy has been elected to the Cy-Fair ISD Board of Trustees since 2012 and is currently serving as President. She has a long history of volunteerism with the district including serving as a global volunteer, mentor and Bus Buddy.  She is the former President of the Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce and retired Executive Director of the Lone Star College Foundation.  She and her husband Bob believe that education can change lives. Darcy and Bob, married for almost 44 years, are parents and parents-in-law of four children and four grandchildren.

Combining Darcy’s passion for the mission of AHA with her commitment to Cy-Fair ISD, we are working to raise $40,000 to assist with providing CPR in School Kits to CFISD schools in need. All high school students in Texas are required to learn how to perform CPR because of a law that Darcy, and many others, worked tirelessly to pass.  CPR performed by a bystander can double or even triple a victim’s survival rate. With the help of CPR in Schools Kits and students teaching their families the skills they have learned, we are adding thousands of lifesavers to our community!

Heart disease causes 1 in 3 women’s deaths and 90% of women have one or more risk factors for developing heart disease.  The Go Red for Women Luncheon is a social initiative designed to empower women and give them the tools to take charge of their heart health. This year’s event will raise critical funds that support educational programs and life-saving research.
