Purpose:
The health care needs of the Houston community are vast. From staggering, uncontrolled blood pressure rates to our less-than-optimal bystander CPR rates, it is clear we still have a lot of work to do. The Greater Houston American Heart Association (AHA) seeks to partner with a group of passionate, physician leaders to form a local council that will work to advance the mission of the AHA, to create a world of longer, healthier lives.
Rationale:
Without our volunteers, the work we do would not be possible. With your help, we can form a united front with common goals that are specific to our community. Physicians around the world utilize the resources provided through the American Heart Association to gain knowledge, receive research funding, advocate for health and safety guidelines, and push forward toward a healthier tomorrow.
Together, our shared values of trust in science, health care quality, and community impact will lead us to save more lives, improve patient outcomes, and ultimately, create a healthier Houston.
Engagement:
Through your investment in the AHA’s mission and local endeavors of $5,000 or more, you will have the opportunity to:
- Guide and support the life-saving work of the AHA in the Greater Houston community through this new advisory council
- Work with thought leaders and AHA Staff on goals and strategies for clinic-to-community connections that will effectively provide resources to patients, with the overall goal of addressing social determinants of health and improving health outcomes (impact updates to be provided semi-annually)
- Present concepts for impacting healthcare and social change and receive feedback from peers.
- Begin your pathway to becoming a Fellow of the American Heart Association (local AHA participation required to become a FAHA at the national level)
- Participate in semi-annual continuing education (CME) events such as journal review, round table discussions, and webinars on the latest science and guidelines
- Receive annual award recognition as decided by your peers
Recognition:
- Gift of a Physicians’ Circle lapel pin
- Invitation to and recognition at an AHA signature event (e.g., Houston Heart Ball, Go Red for Women Luncheon)
- Recognition in Houston Business Journal
- Recognition through Cor Vitae Society including the quarterly Cor Vitae Society newsletter, The Pulse
