Nearly 1 every in 100 children are born with a congenital heart defect. The American Heart Association funds more pediatric cardiac research than any organization outside the federal government. Yet, every year grants and fellowship applications go unfunded, which means many projects with potential scientific breakthroughs are shelved, and the knowledge that would result from them deferred.
